Why Is My Auto Repair Shop Website Not Showing on Google?
If you search for your shop and your website doesn't come up, it's usually one of a handful of fixable things. Work through these in order.
1. Check whether Google knows about your site at all
Type site:yourshop.com (with your real web address) into Google. If nothing comes back, Google hasn't added your pages to its index yet. Brand-new sites, and sites that recently moved to a new address, often take a while.
2. Set up Google Search Console (free)
- Go to Google Search Console and add your website. You'll be asked to prove you own it; your web person or website builder can help with this step.
- Use the URL Inspection tool on your homepage. It tells you whether the page is indexed and, if not, why.
- If the page is fine but not indexed, click Request indexing. This doesn't guarantee anything, but it asks Google to take a look.
3. Look for something blocking Google
- A "noindex" setting. Many website builders have a "hide from search engines" switch that's easy to leave on after launch. Check your site settings.
- A robots.txt file blocking everything. Visit
yourshop.com/robots.txt. If you seeDisallow: /underUser-agent: *, ask your web person why. - The site is down or very slow. If Google can't load your pages, it can't index them.
4. Make each page clearly about what you do and where
Google needs words to work with. Make sure your homepage says, in plain text (not only inside pictures), what you fix and what town you're in, for example "Brake repair, oil changes and diagnostics in Springfield". Give each page a clear title and a short description.
5. Remember: Maps and the website are different results
Showing up in the map results is mostly about your Google Business Profile, not your website alone. Make sure the profile exists, is verified, and links to your site.
