How to Embed a Google Map on Your Shop Website
A map helps new customers find you, especially if your shop is tucked behind another building or in an industrial park. You can embed one for free.
Get the embed code
- Open Google Maps on a computer and search for your shop's Business Profile (so the pin shows your business, not just the street address).
- Click Share, then Embed a map.
- Choose a size and copy the HTML code.
- Paste it into your contact page (in most builders, use an "Embed" or "HTML" block).
Make it work well
- Give the map a title so screen reader users know what it is: add
title="Map to Smith's Auto Repair"to the<iframe>code. The W3C describes this technique. - Add a plain "Get directions" link to your Google Business Profile, next to your written address. On phones, a link that opens the Maps app is often more useful than a small embedded map. Our free check looks for this link.
- Write your address as text too, with landmarks if it's hard to find: "Behind the Shell station, entrance on Oak Street."
- Mind the speed. An embedded map loads extra code. Put it on the contact page rather than the top of the homepage, and add
loading="lazy"to the iframe so it loads only when someone scrolls to it (Google's embed code often includes this already).
Double-check
Tap the map and the directions link on your phone. Make sure the pin lands on your shop entrance and the address matches your Google Business Profile exactly.
Check your own site in seconds
Our free website check for auto repair shops looks at one page for broken links, Google basics, phone setup, HTTPS, image descriptions and business details for Google, and explains what it finds in plain English.
