Choosing a Website Builder or Host for an Auto Repair Shop
There's no single best platform. The right choice depends on who will update the site, your budget, and how much control you want. Here's a plain-English way to decide.
The three common options
- All-in-one website builders (Wix, Squarespace, Shopify, GoDaddy's builder and others): you pay monthly, and hosting, security updates and HTTPS are handled for you. Easy to edit yourself. Less flexible, and moving away later can mean rebuilding.
- WordPress on your own hosting: very flexible, huge choice of themes and plugins, and you own everything. But someone has to keep WordPress, the theme and plugins updated, and speed depends on your host and plugin choices.
- Auto-repair website providers (often bundled with marketing, shop software or parts programs): built for shops, sometimes with booking and coupons included. Check carefully who owns the domain and content, and what happens if you cancel.
Questions to ask before you sign
- Who owns the domain name? It should be registered in your business's name, with login details you control.
- Can I export my content and photos if I leave?
- Is HTTPS included? (It should be. See Do I need HTTPS.)
- Can I edit hours, specials and services myself without paying for each change?
- How does it perform on phones? Ask for example sites and test them in PageSpeed Insights.
- Who handles updates and backups?
- Are there long contracts or setup fees? What's included in the monthly price?
If someone offers "guaranteed #1 on Google"
Be cautious. Google's own advice on hiring an SEO says no one can guarantee a number one ranking. Ask what they will actually do, and keep control of your accounts.
Whatever you choose
Make sure you can easily get the basics right: a clear homepage, click-to-call, accurate hours, and service pages.
