Website Accessibility Basics for Small Auto Repair Shops

Web accessibility means people with disabilities can use your website: people who are blind and use screen readers, people with low vision who zoom in, people who can't use a mouse, and many older customers. Most improvements also make the site easier for everyone.

This page is general information, not legal advice. Automated tools, including ours, find only some issues and cannot confirm that a site meets any accessibility standard.

Easy checks you can do yourself

  1. Page titles: every page should have a clear, unique title in the browser tab.
  2. Images: meaningful images need alt text.
  3. Zoom: zoom your browser to 200%. Can you still read and use everything?
  4. Keyboard: on a computer, press Tab repeatedly. Can you reach every link, button and form field, and can you see where you are?
  5. Contrast: is text easy to read against its background? Light gray text on white, or white text on a busy photo, is hard for many people.
  6. Headings: does the page use real headings in a logical order, so screen reader users can skim?
  7. Forms: does each field in your booking or contact form have a visible label (not just placeholder text that disappears)?
  8. Links: do links make sense out of context? "Book an appointment" is better than "Click here".

The W3C's "Easy Checks" guide walks through these in more detail.
